Here is the West Pier back when one could still see much of its glorious structure and we had been given yet another promise that it was about to be restored. While Philip was admiring the sunset, looking for inspiration to balance the composition, this young man came running along the water’s edge, intent on getting somewhere fast. He almost certainly didn’t know that his efforts were going to be set down in perpetuity.
