Last winter, both the sun and the West Pier were sinking fast and trying both their level and unlevel bests respectively to take Philip with them. But with his new puppy, Arty and his ever faithful muse competing for his attention, both by biting at his ankles, Philip has realised that what comes to pass is not merely death but also transfiguration. Hope, however small, still springs eternal.
