  • And gone tomorrow. Halfway through painting this perfectly balanced composition, Philip returned to this very spot on the Palace Pier, in order to verify the exact construction of the lamppost, only to find it had been removed. Four bolt holes in the decking were all that remained. Although still a well-known view towards the West Pier, the prescience of this title now relates to so much more.
