And so, as the sun sets over the Birdcage Bandstand on Brighton seafront, the old style halogen lamps, courtesy of the erstwhile Shoreham B Power Station in the background, are already taking over the responsibility for lighting our way. This, of course, is at a time when a New Ice Age seemed a more likely prospect than Global Warming but, nevertheless, a golden glow suffuses the scene like liquid nostalgia.
